CHRONICLE OF A DEATH POSTPONED

 a film by Richard Millen

Film has always been a passion of mine. But it wasn't until illness cut me off from the life I'd known that I finally turned on my video camera. Confined to my third-floor walk-up in Brooklyn for several years, I began to translate the troubles and mysteries of my newly limited world into art. Recording in short segments - five minutes or less - I documented memories, events, hopes and fears, and everyday details of my predicament: visits from nurses and physical therapists, changes in weather, the frustrations and discoveries of solitude. Chronicle of a Death Postponed, its evolution and assembly, became a practice of devotion for me. It has yielded, I hope, a distillation of what I have endured and what I have reclaimed.
